On the AI panel at Health Popup London
Our CEO Jonathan Abraham joined a panel of emerging AI start-ups at Health Popup London, an evening on taking health tech to the USA, funding innovation and the impact of machines on healthcare.

Healum CEO Jonathan Abraham was invited to speak on a panel about artificial intelligence in healthcare at #HealthPopUp London on 13 February 2019.
The event was organised by the Mount Sinai group with Humble Ventures at Queen Mary University of London. It drew healthcare enthusiasts from start-ups, academia and student life, all passionate about healthcare and the use of technology in the UK and the USA.
Opportunities in the USA
Eric Lium and Eric Kostegan of Mount Sinai Co-Labs opened the evening with the opportunities open to UK start-ups in the United States.
The first panel, moderated by Ritesh Patel of Ogilvy, discussed commercialising health tech in the USA. The panellists were largely in favour of the US, feeling that health technology is commercialised faster there than anywhere else.
Funding health innovation
The next panel looked at funding health innovation, and the challenges involved. Parker Moss, entrepreneur and investor at F-Prime Ventures and Fidelity, spoke about the problems investors face, noting that most investors never get back the money they invest. He stressed the importance of a good relationship with investors that goes beyond money: in the end, investors are business partners.
Further panels covered the impact of machines on healthcare, and how to speed up the uptake of high-impact innovations for patients and NHS staff.
AI start-ups
The evening ended with a panel of emerging start-ups in artificial intelligence in healthcare, including Healum, MySense, HealthUnlocked and Hospify.
“Healum has begun a journey to develop an AI system that is powered by healthcare professionals, from healthcare professionals and for healthcare professionals, to ease their concerns about sourcing second opinions for a particular patient treatment and management for a set of conditions, allergies, comorbidities and prescriptions, to understand the patient pathway and come up with an easy way to see and analyse the outcomes of the results.”
Jonathan Abraham, CEO and Co-founder, Healum
The evening closed with networking, as the start-ups shared their visions for technology in healthcare and, above all, for improving people’s lives.
